Outreach Street Work Services

Accompaniment

Accompaniment is defined by helping an individual navigate through the challenges and realities they face. Through empowerment and the support of the outreach worker, the person will be able to make viable choices that belong to them and at their own pace. They are accompanied through each step of the process whether it’s medical, judicial, governmental or community oriented. The service user can gradually reclaim their life by breaking their isolation and by developing their independence

Referrals

Referrals are an important part of our services. Our street outreach workers refer the service users to professionals and to services that correspond to their needs such as housing, rehabilitation, food bank, access to a methadone treatment program, etc.

Emergency Assistance

The street outreach workers have an allotted budget and a list of referrals that offer food, furniture and clothing emergency assistance.

Housing Search

Faced with a growing demand, we offer a punctual housing search service. After evaluating the needs of the service user, and with them, the outreach worker can search listings, accompany them on visits or do referrals to shelter.

Mediation

A service user can request an impartial mediation with its outreach worker. Confidentiality of all respected parties is guaranteed.

Harm Reduction Supplies

AJOI uses the harm reduction approach. This means that we distribute and exchange harm reduction supplies such as condoms, syringes and crack pipes within a judgement free space. This also means giving unbiased and objective information to our service users which in turn will empower them to make their own choices. We are not here to stop any behavior, but to reduce any harm that may be associated with it.

First Aid Certified

Outreach workers provide frontline services to members of the public. This means, sometimes, they become first responders in cases of emergency. They are all trained and accredited by the CSST to administer immediate care and are equipped with first aid kits.

Crises Intervention

Crisis situation may be rare occurrences but they do appear. If an individual's life is deemed to be at risk, the outreach worker is trained to evaluate and intervene to deescalate and stabilize the situation before proceeding to any other interventions.

AJOI-Mobile

AJOI-Mobile is a free shuttle service. This vehicle allows our street outreach workers to accompany our service users towards front-line resources situated downtown or elsewhere the need may be.

Awareness and Prevention Workshops

AJOI offers tailored workshops to the schools and the community. They are customized to their needs and realities, covering multiple subjects : sexual and relational health, poly-substance abuse, rights and responsibilities, etc.

L'Ange de l'AJOI is a prevention program for sexual exploitation. Launched by AJOI, this prevention and awareness project intervenes with youth from 12 to 25 years old at risk of sexual recruitment and distinguish between a healthy and unhealthy relationship.

The Programme d'information et de sensibilisation sociale (PISS) was conceived and led by AJOI's outreach workers. These awareness workshops target at risk youth by informing them of their rights whether it be judicial, professional, financial or housing. The aim of this program is to empower them with knowledge and a sense of security.

AJOI Services

AJOI offers presentations and kiosks about the organization and its services. This allows the schools and the community to meet their local outreach worker and to get a better understanding of our approach.

School Collaboration

Street outreach workers can be seen in the school's vicinity. Collaboration between the outreach worker and the school can occur if the school opts for this. This means AJOI can be present within the establishment and offer a variety of services in regards of each respected approach.
